Discover Placerville

The prime centre of wine production, Placerville is one of the finest locations in California to consider a living. Known as the “Gold Town” in the days of the Great California Gold Rush, Placerville is still a community with a lot of historic stories.

The city has had many names through history like ‘Dry Diggin’s’ and ‘Hangtown’ until the name ‘Placerville’ was incorporated in 1854.

The year 1850 is a benchmark in Placerville’s history with the first post office opening that year. California’s oldest newspaper ‘Mountain Democrat’ was established here in 1851.

The Bell Tower situated on the main street has a story to tell. This tower has stood strong through all fires of 1865 that the city witnessed. This tower has seen a history of 100 years unfold beneath it.

Other historic monuments include Our Savior Church, Museum of Fountain and Tallman, House of Combellack-Blair, Confidence Hall etc.

The Main Street is where many entrepreneurs like Henry Hooker, John Studebaker, Mark Hopkins, and Levi Strauss carried on their business which included lodging, banking, general stores and a market place.

The snowfall in the city can reach a maximum of 6 inches in cold winder storms. The higher you go, the climate gets colder and reveals more snow.

Placerville has an enormous labor pool with a diversified economy. The high quality of life makes Placerville a central hub of business. The pleasant climate and low crime rate makes Placerville a much desired place to work or start a business. The opportunities for job seekers are on the rise with many innovative entrepreneurs now setting up their business at Placerville.

The main weekend getaway is the entertainment provided at the Bell Tower in good weather by local entertainers or DJs.

November 27th saw a Festival of Lights on the main street of Placerville that included, free Stagecoach Rides, music, entertainment by Santa, and tree lighting.

With Christmas approaching, the 32nd annual Christmas parade is all set to hit the roads on December 6th at 1 pm on the Mountain Democrat parking lot.

Stagecoach Rides include free rides around the Bell Tower on December 12th, 13th, 19th and 20th between 12 and 4 pm.
